United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced today that on September 18, 2006, Matthew Standing Crow, age 20, of Oglala, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge
Andrew W. Bogue to 33 months imprisonment, three years supervised release, and ordered to pay $100 to the Victims' Assistance Fund. Standing Crow was originally indicted by a federal grand jury in April 2006 for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury following an investigation conducted by The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The charges stem from an incident when Standing Crow and another individual assaulted a person who suffered a subdural hematoma in the head. On May 31, 2006, Standing Crow pleaded guilty to Assault Resulting Serious Bodily Injury. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gregg S. Peterman.
