Man pleads guilty to Assault

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced today that Travis Dean Pipe On Head of Oglala appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Marshall P. Young in federal court and pleaded not guilty to a charge of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury following an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Pipe On Head was indicted by a federal grand jury which met in October 2006 . The maximum penalty upon conviction of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury is 10 years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. Jackley said the charges relate to an incident which occurred on February 18, 2006, when an altercation developed during which Pipe On Head repeatedly stabbed another man in the arm. This charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. Assistant United States Attorney Gregg S. Peterman is prosecuting the case. No date has been set for trial.
