Pine Ridge Woman Pleads Guilty to Assault

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced today that on November 6, 2006, Floreda Richard pleaded guilty in federal court to Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. Richard (21) of Pine Ridge appeared before U.S. District Judge Andrew W. Bogue and pleaded guilty to the original indictment which was returned following an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation . The maximum penalty upon conviction is ten years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. Jackley said the charges relate to incidents during the period between June 1, 2005, and June 30, 2005, wherein Richard physically assaulted one of her children, an infant, resulting in permanent brain damage. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gregg S. Peterman. A presentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing date has been set for January 22, 2007.
