United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley
announced today that on December 19, 2006, Travis Pipe On Head pled guilty
in federal court to assault with a dangerous weapon. Pipe On Head, 23,
appeared before U.S. District Judge Andrew W. Bogue and pled guilty to
the original indictment which was returned following an investigation
conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The maximum penalty
upon conviction is ten years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. Jackley
said the charges relate to an incident on February 18, 2006, in Oglala,
when Pipe on Head assaulted another person with a knife causing the victim
to suffer a very large laceration in the left upper forearm. The case
was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gregg S. Peterman.
A presentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing date has been
set for March 12, 2007.
