United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley
announced today that on December 27, 2006, Doyle Bettelyoun pled guilty
in federal court to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Bettelyoun,
of Wanblee, appeared before U.S. District Judge Richard H. Battey and
pled guilty to the original indictment which was returned following an
investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The maximum
penalty upon conviction is ten years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.
Jackley said the charges relate to an incident that occurred on October
4, 2006, near Wanblee wherein Bettelyoun and another person assaulted
an individual who suffered a broken elbow and numerous bruises. The case
was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mara M. Kohn. A presentence
investigation was ordered and a sentencing date has been set for March
13, 2007.
