November 9, 2006
Rapid City, South Dakota

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced today that on October 26, 2006, Vine Hayes (a/k/a Vine Phillip Bissonette), age 32, of Pine Ridge was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Andrew W. Bogue to forty-one months imprisonment, three years supervised release, and ordered to pay $100 to the Victims' Assistance Fund. Hayes was originally indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2006 for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury following an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The charges stem from an incident wherein Hayes beat and kicked his then girlfriend about her face and body near Pine Ridge. She suffered eye damage, several broken ribs, and substantial bruising about her body. On July 25, 2006, Hayes pleaded guilty to the federal charge. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gregg S. Peterman.
