October 81, 2006
Rapid City, South Dakota

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced today that on October 16, 2006, Seth Hernandez, age 25, of Pine Ridge was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier to 15 months imprisonment, three years supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 Victim Assessment fine. Hernandez was originally indicted by a federal grand jury in January 2006 for Unlawful User of a Controlled Substance in Possession of a Firearm following an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. The charges stem from an incident involving the illegal sale of drugs on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. On May 31, 2006, Hernandez pleaded guilty to the charge. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mara M. Kohn.
