Man Sentenced to Probation on Fraud Charge

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced today that on August 30, 2006,Gregory Flanagan, of Rapid City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier to 6 months probation, a $300 fine, $1,322.91 restitution and a $25 victims' assessment. Flanagan, 46, was originally indicted by a federal grand jury in February, 2006, for Fraud and Related Activity in Connection with Access Devices following an investigation conducted by the South Dakota Department of Social Services Fraud Investigation and the FBI. The charges stem from incidents occurring between March and June, 2005, near Rapid City when Flanagan illegally used food stamp EBT cards that he knew he was not entitled to. On August 30, 2006, Flanagan pleaded guilty to Unauthorized Use of Food Stamp Access Devices. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn G. Royce.
