United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced today that on November 7, 2006, Sylvester Bordeaux pleaded guilty in federal court to Sexual Abuse. Bordeaux of Pine Ridge appeared before U.S. District Judge Richard H. Battey and pleaded guilty to the original indictment which was returned following an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The maximum penalty upon conviction is life imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. Jackley said the charges relate to an incident on July 29, 2006, wherein Bordeaux engaged in a sexual act with a woman who was unconscious at the time. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gregg S. Peterman. A presentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing date has been set for January 23, 2007.
