Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Contact

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced today that on October 24, 2006, Tatanka Rowland pleaded guilty in federal court to Sexual Abuse of a Minor. Rowland, 21, of Pine Ridge, appeared before U.S. District Judge Richard H. Battey and pleaded guilty to the original indictment which was returned following an investigation conducted by the BIA and the FBI. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 15 years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. Jackley said the charge relates to an incident occurring on February 13, 2004, when Rowland had sexual contact with a 13 year old girl. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark A. Vargo. A presentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing date will be set.
