Ogala Man Sentenced for
Stabbing

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced today that on September
6, 2006, Vernon Shortbull, age 23, of Ogala was sentenced by U.S. District
Judge Andrew W. Bogue to 27 months' in prison, three years supervised release,
and ordered to pay $100 to the Victim's Assistance Fund. Shortbull was originally
indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2006 for assault resulting in serious
bodily injury and assault with a dangerous weapon following an investigation
conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The charges stem from an
incident in which Shortbull stabbed another man with a knife, resulting in
serious bodily injury. On June 19, 2006, Shortbull pleaded guilty to assault
with a dangerous weapon. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States
Attorney Gregg S. Peterman.
