Former Minot Air Force Base Man Sentenced for Assault
MINOT - United States Attorney Drew H. Wrigley announced that on July 23, 2007, Seledonio Bryant, 23, formerly of Minot AFB, North Dakota, was sentenced in United States District Court before Chief Judge Daniel L. Hovland on a charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
Judge Hovland sentenced Bryant to four years and nine months in Federal prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. Bryant was order to pay $2923.51 in restitution and a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund.
The incident occurred near Belcourt, ND, on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation on March 4, 2007. During the early morning hours of that day, Bryant was present at a residence in the east site housing project where many other people were also gathered. As Bryant and others were attempting to leave, a dispute broke out and Bryant fired a handgun. A shot hit another individual in the stomach area.
The shooting victim underwent surgery and recovered. Bryant has since been discharged from the Air Force.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Turtle Mountain Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Assistant United States Attorney David Hagler prosecuted the case.
