United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley has announced that a Sioux Falls man wanted in connection with an October 1, 2007, bank robbery was arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 15, 2007. Johnnie L. Ballard a/k/a Johnnie L. Ballard, Jr., 31, was arrested by special agents from the FBI and Las Vegas Police Department officers. Ballard is currently charged in a two-count complaint with bank robbery and the use of a firearm during a crime of violence in connection with the October 1 robbery at the Valley Bank branch on East 10th Street in Sioux Falls. Ballard appeared before a United States magistrate judge in Las Vegas on October 16, 2007, and waived an identity hearing. He was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service and will be transferred back to South Dakota within ten days. The charges contained in the Complaint are merely accusations and Ballard is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation involves a cooperative effort between the Sioux Falls FBI office and the Sioux Falls Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas J. Wright.
