Minneapolis Man Sentenced for Cocaine Distribution
BISMARCK - United States Attorney Drew H. Wrigley announced that on August 17, 2007, Gregory M. Brooks, 23, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was sentenced before United States District Court Chief Judge Daniel L. Hovland on a charge of distribution of cocaine base.
Brooks pleaded guilty to the charge on January 16, 2007. The crime occurred on September 18, 2006, at the A & W Restaurant in Bismarck, where Brooks delivered approximately 15.96 grams of cocaine base to an informant working for the Metro Area Safe Trails Task Force.
Judge Hovland found Brooks to be a career offender and sentenced him to serve 14 years and six months in federal prison to be followed by four years of supervised release. Brooks was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim's Fund.
The case was investigated by the Metro Area Safe Trails Task Force, which includes officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bismarck and Mandan Police Departments, Burleigh and Morton County Sheriff’s Offices, North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and North Dakota Parole and Probation.
Assistant United States Attorney Scott Schneider prosecuted the case.
