Rapid City Woman Pleads Guilty to Drug Charge

 

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced today that on May 16, 2007, Kenya Shepard pled guilty in federal court to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. Shepard, 24, of Rapid City, appeared before U.S. District Judge Andrew W. Bogue and pled guilty to count I of the original indictment that was returned following an investigation conducted by DEA, FBI, UNET and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. The penalty upon conviction is five to forty years imprisonment and/or a $2,000,000 fine. Jackley said the charge relates to incidents occurring between April and September 2006 when Shepard conspired with others to distribute methamphetamine in South Dakota. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark A. Vargo. A presentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing date will be set.
