Fort Totten Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Abuse of a Minor

FARGO - United States Attorney Drew Wrigley announced that on September 11, 2007, Paul Wallace Robertson of Fort Totten, North Dakota, pleaded guilty before United States District Court Judge Ralph R. Erickson to a charge of sexual abuse of a minor.

Robertson, 41, pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual acts with a child who at the time was at least 12 but not 16 years of age, and was at least four years younger than Robertson. The incidents occurred in December of 2001 on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation.

The charge of sexual abuse of a minor carries a statutory maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment. Robertson has a previous 1998 conviction in Spirit Lake Tribal Court for carnal knowledge with a minor under the age of 16.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Sentencing for Robertson has been scheduled for November 21, 2007, in United States District Court in Grand Forks, North Dakota, at 10:00 a.m.
