Northfield man sentenced to 57 months in prison for robbing a Faribault bank

A 20-year-old Northfield man was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison last week for robbing the State Bank of Faribault on Aug. 13, 2007.

On April 1 in Minneapolis, United States District Court Chief Judge James Rosenbaum also sentenced Curtis Adam Heckers to three years of supervised release and directed him to pay the bank $12,500 in restitution. Heckers was indicted Sept. 18, 2007, on one count of bank robbery and pleaded guilty to the charge on Nov. 28, 2007.

According to a Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit, Heckers entered the bank and handed a teller a note stating “Give me all the money in the top two drawers or I will shoot you!” The teller complied and handed two stacks of banded money to Heckers, who placed the money into his pockets and walked out of the bank.

A bank employee observed the vehicle Heckers entered after leaving the bank and wrote down the license plate number. Information provided by two men helped police track down Heckers in a Northfield hotel, where he was arrested on Aug. 17, 2007.

This case was the result of an investigation by the FBI, the Minnesota Fugitive Task Force and the police departments of Faribault and Northfield. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly A. Svendsen.
