Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced that a Denver man has been
indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to distribute
a controlled substance, distribution of a controlled substance
and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Johnny "Cakes" LaDeaux,
age 29, was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 14,
2007. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L.
Duffy on February 28, 2008, and pled not guilty to the indictment.
The penalty upon conviction of the conspiracy charge is ten
years to life imprisonment and/or a $4,000,000 fine; the penalty
upon conviction of the possession and distribution charges
is up to twenty years imprisonment and/or a $1,000,000 fine.
The charges are merely accusations and LaDeaux is presumed
innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation
is being conducted by the FBI, BIA, ATF and UNET, and Assistant
United States Attorney Mark A Vargo is prosecuting the case.
LaDeaux was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal. A trial
date has not yet been set.
