United
States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced that a Porcupine man
has been indicted by a federal grand jury for aggravated sexual
abuse and sexual abuse. Angelo Perez, age 27, was indicted by
a federal grand jury on April 23, 2008. He appeared before US
Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on May 8, 2008, and pled not
guilty to the indictment. The penalty upon conviction is any term
of years to life imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. Perez is
charged with engaging in sexual relations with a woman who, at
the time, was incapable of appraising the nature of the defendant's
conduct. The charges are merely accusations and Perez is presumed
innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is
being conducted by the FBI and Assistant US Attorney Gregg S.
Peterman is prosecuting the case. Perez was remanded to the custody
of the US Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
