Pine Ridge Man Sentenced to 188 Months for Involvement in Cocaine Conspiracy on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation
United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced that a Pine Ridge man charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance was sentenced on August 10, 2009, by US District Court Chief Judge Karen E. Schreier. Kenneth Walking Eagle, age 37, was sentenced to 188 months’ imprisonment, five years’ supervised release and a special assessment of $100 to the Victims’ Assistance Fund. Walking Eagle was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 24, 2008. Between 1999 and December 2008, Walking Eagle was part of a conspiracy to distribute cocaine on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and elsewhere. He pled guilty to the charge on May 18, 2009. This case was investigated by OST, BIA, ATF and FBI. Assistant US Attorney Mark A. Vargo prosecuted the case. Walking Eagle was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
