Martin Man Sentenced to Six Months in Prison for Assault

United States Attorney Marty J. Jackley announced that a man charged with assault by striking, beating and wounding was sentenced on August 26, 2009, by US District Court Chief Judge Karen E. Schreier. Irvin Salway, age 36, of Martin, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment and ordered to pay a special assessment of $10 to the Victims’ Assistance Fund. Salway was indicted for assault resulting in serious bodily injury by a federal grand jury on May 19, 2009. He pled guilty to a superseding information on August 26, 2009, charging him with striking, beating and wounding wherein he stabbed another person in the arm. This case was investigated by the FBI. Assistant US Attorney Gregg S. Peterman prosecuted the case. Salway was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshal.
