Cottage Grove Woman Indicted for Robbing Maplewood Bank

A federal grand jury has returned an indictment against a 29-year-old Cottage Grove woman for allegedly robbing the Maplewood branch of Wells Fargo Bank on August 29, 2009. The indictment charges Ma Myrrelli Juanillo Asuncion with one count of bank robbery, alleging she took $2,487 from the Wells Fargo branch located at 2945 White Bear Avenue.

According to a Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”) affidavit filed with the court in this case, the robber, later identified as Asuncion, entered the bank at 4 p.m. on August 29. She then passed a note to a teller, demanding $15,000. Upon obtaining cash from the teller, Asuncion left the premises on foot. She turned herself in to the Minneapolis field office of the FBI on August 30.

If convicted, Asuncion faces a potential maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. All sentences are determined by a federal district court judge. This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI and the Maplewood Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tricia A. Tingle.
