Twenty-Year Sentence for Drug Charge

BISMARCK—Acting United States Attorney Lynn C. Jordheim announced that on September 28, 2009, Donald Schlittenhardt, 43, of Bismarck, North Dakota, was sentenced before United States District Court Chief Judge Daniel L. Hovland on a charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Schlittenhardt pleaded guilty to the charge on May 19, 2009.

On September 26, 2008, during a search of Schlittenhardt’s residence in Bismarck, law enforcement officials found one pound of methamphetamine, which has a street value of approximately $50,000 to $70,000.

Judge Hovland sentenced Schlittenhardt to serve 20 years in federal prison, to be followed by 10 years of supervised release. The sentence was ordered to be served concurrently with a State sentence that Schlittenhardt is currently serving. Schlittenhardt was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim's Fund.

The case was investigated by the Metro Area Safe Trails Task Force, which includes officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bismarck and Mandan Police Departments, Burleigh and Morton County Sheriff’s Offices, North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and North Dakota Parole and Probation.

Assistant United States Attorney David Hagler prosecuted the case.
