Kyle Man Pleads Guilty to Assault with a Dangerous Weapon

Acting U.S. Attorney Dennis R. Holmes announced that Manny Clifford, age 18, of Kyle, appeared before Chief U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on October 2, 2009, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged him with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years' imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. Clifford pled guilty to assaulting another person with an aluminum bat on the left cheek area. As a result of the assault, the victim sustained an eight-centimeter laceration across the cheek and jaw line areas of his face which necessitated 25-26 stitches. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for January 11, 2010. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
