Minneapolis Man Sentenced for Assaulting Another Passenger During Flight

A 68-year-old Minneapolis man was sentenced today in federal court for assaulting a fellow passenger during a Northwest Airlines flight last year from Amsterdam to the Twin Cities. In Minneapolis, United States District Court Judge James Rosenbaum sentenced Abdalla Abdi Haibe to 12 months of probation on one count of assault within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S. A federal grand jury indicted Haibe on October 14, 2008. Haibe pleaded guilty on July 21, 2009.

According to Haibe’s plea agreement, he admitted head-butting and spiting on another passenger on July 27, 2008, while traveling from the Netherlands to Minnesota.

This case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Carol M. Kayser.
