Man Sentenced for Robbing Coon Rapids Bank
A 22-year-old man was sentenced today in federal court for holding up the Klein Bank of
Coon Rapids on April 22, 2009. In Minneapolis, United States District Court Judge David Doty
sentenced Neiman Reagis Adams, unknown address, to 51 months in prison and five years of
supervised release on one count of armed bank robbery. Adams was indicted on May 19, 2009,
and pleaded guilty on August 4, 2009.
In his plea agreement, Adams admitted taking $7,738 from the bank, located at 3070 Coon
Rapids Boulevard. He also admitted assaulting and putting in jeopardy the life of another person
by use of a dangerous weapon.
According to a Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit, the robber, later identified as
Adams, entered the bank at approximately 9 a.m. on April 22. He walked up to a teller, pulled
out a handgun, and ordered the teller to fill up a white plastic garbage bag with cash. After the
cash was placed in the bag, Adams fled.
Police reviewed the bank surveillance video and thought the suspect resembled a person
known to them who lived a few blocks from the bank. Officers went to the apartment complex
where that person lived and observed Adams enter the building. He was wearing clothes similar
to those worn by the robber.
Law enforcement then began surveillance on the apartment complex and observed Adams
get into a vehicle and drive eastbound on Coon Rapids Boulevard. Shortly after Coon Rapids Police stopped the vehicle on a traffic violation, Adams jumped from the front passenger seat
and fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended, and officers recovered $6,762 in cash on
Adams’s person. They also found a semi-automatic handgun next to a garbage can
approximately 20 yards from where Adams was arrested.
Police executed a search warrant on Adams’s apartment on April 23, 2009. There they
seized the clothing that matched the clothes worn by the bank robber.
This case was the result of an investigation by the FBI and the Coon Rapids Police
Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Erika R. Mozangue.
