Applicant Program
Mission
Statement:
The
Applicant Mission of the Minneapolis Division is to execute
personnel recruitment initiatives designed to recruit and select
highly qualified individuals for Special Agent and Support
positions within the FBI, including minorities, women, and
persons with disabilities.
Special Agent:
If you are interested in applying for a position with the FBI
as a Special Agent there are some preliminary requirements that
must be met. You must be a United States citizen, no younger
than twenty-three, and you must not have reached the age of thirty-seven
by the time you are hired. All candidates must have a bachelor's
degree from an accredited, four-year resident program at a college
or university. Prior to employment, all candidates must
complete a rigorous application process. Successful completion
of a written test and an interview are followed by a thorough
background investigation which includes credit and arrest checks,
interviews of associates, contacts with personal and business
references, an interview of past employers and neighbors, and
verification of educational achievements. Drug testing,
a polygraph examination, and a physical examination are required.
The completed background investigation is then assessed for a
final decision on hiring.
If you live in the territory covered
by the Minneapolis Division, please contact
the Minneapolis FBI Office. We will be happy to forward
information to you in the mail. Check out the FBI's Main
Employment
Section for additional information on the Special Agent position.
Professional
Support:
There are many other job opportunities within the FBI aside from
Special Agent positions. Support positions include jobs classified
as professional, administrative, technical, clerical, craft,
trade, maintenance and other categories. To apply, you
must be a United States citizen with a high school degree or
its equivalent. However, some positions require a bachelor's
or advanced degree or technical training. Previous work
experience may also be required for some positions. Professional
support positions include job titles such as Budget Analyst,
Language Specialist, Intelligence Research Specialist, Writer,
Electronics Technician, Computer Programmer, Engineering Technician,
Laboratory Technician, Paralegal, Administrative Assistant, Secretary,
Typist, Clerk, and Electrician. Not every FBI field office

Applicant Program:
The Applicant Program is
responsible for administering, monitoring, and processing the Phase I
written tests that have been validated for the selection of the best
qualified, critically skilled applicants to be hired as Special Agents.
In addition, the program is also involved in the review of applicants'
backgrounds and work experience for the purpose of submitting the names
of qualified applicants to FBI Headquarters in Washington D.C. for
consideration to advance to the Phase II oral interview stage in
Cleveland, Ohio.
Finally, the program oversees
the processing of the applications for prospective Special Agents who
pass the Phase II oral interviews and receive conditional letters of
appointment. This processing includes: the polygraph examination, random
drug testing, personnel security interview, the preemployment physical
examination, the physical readiness test in the field, and the
initiation of the background investigation.
In FY 2003, the Minneapolis
Division entered 245 applications. 178 individuals were administered the
Phase I written test. 110 applicants passed the Phase I written test. 26
applicants were granted interviews. 10 applicants passed the oral
interview. 7 of these applicants were hired as Special Agents. |
