Ralph G. Diaz ,
Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis Office of the FBI, today, announced
that on November 3, 2006, between the hours of 4:00 pm to 4:30 pm, a 45 year
old Callaway, MN, man received a gunshot wound to his left arm while bow
hunting in the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. The victim, who was dressed
in camouflage, was bow hunting in a ground blind that was marked with blaze
orange ribbon. The victim heard movement and saw two individuals armed with
long guns appear on a hillside 60-80 yards from his position. The two individuals
were both dressed in blaze orange clothing. The victim noticed that one of
the individuals was pointing a gun at him, raising and lowering the gun 2-3
times. In an effort to make his identity more obvious, the victim applied
a piece of blaze orange ribbon on his hat. The victim advised that he had
a bad feeling and as he began to exit his blind, he felt a bullet strike
his arm and heard a shot. He immediately began to run and yelled that he
had been shot. He eventually made it to a trail where his son later found
him.
The victim described the individuals as males with dark complexions, possibly
Native Americans. If anyone has any information regarding this incident or
knows the identity of the two individuals, please call the FBI at 612-376-3200.
