On Friday, August 24, 2007, at approximately 12:20 p.m., the SMW Federal Credit Union, located at 6574 University Avenue NE, Fridley , Minnesota, was a robbed by a lone individual. At approximately 12:10 p.m., the robber entered the bank and inquired about opening a new account. After the robber asked a few questions about new accounts, he exited the bank and waited on a bench outside the bank for the remaining customer's inside to leave. Approximately 10 minutes later the robber entered the bank with a black handgun, ran behind a teller who was in the lobby, grabbed her by the back of the neck and pushed her behind the teller line and demanded cash. The robber was yelling that he had a gun and to give him the money. As the robber was pushing the teller around he pointed the handgun at her. After the robber had pushed the teller to her teller window, he ran around to the customer side of her window and put a black or blue lunch bag (vinyl lunch cooler) on her counter. The teller placed an undisclosed amount of money in the bag and the robber ran outside the credit union and was last seen fleeing east toward University Avenue.
The robber is described as a black male with a dark complexion, late 30s or early 40s, 5'6" to 5'8", heavy build, stocky, possibly a small amount of facial hair and a round face. The robber wore yellow short sleeve t-shirt, baggy blue jeans, white sneakers, and a black baseball hat with a black Boston Red Sox "B" logo on it. The gun was a black semi-automatic handgun.
