Ralph
S. Boelter, Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis FBI office, today,
announced the arrest of Brian Lee Lockhart, age 27 of White Bear Lake,
Minnesota. On Thursday, December 13, 2007, shortly after the Central
Bank, located at 3670 Century Avenue North, Mahtomedi, Minnesota was
robbed; an officer from the White Bear lake Police Department arrested
Lockhart near the intersection of Wedgewood Drive and Highway 244 in
Mahtomedi, Minnesota. The arrest was without incident.
On Friday, December
14, 2007, a federal criminal complaint was filed in United States District
Court, District of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, charging Brian
Lee Lockhart with bank robbery for the alleged December 13, 2007, robbery
of the Central Bank located at 3670 Century Avenue North, Mahtomedi,
Minnesota.
The complaint alleges
that on December 13, 2007, at approximately 4:15pm, the Central Bank
was robbed by a lone white male who presented the victim teller with
a demand note for cash. The teller complied and the robber fled the
bank on foot. A Central Bank employee immediately called "911"
and gave the White Bear Lake Police Department dispatcher a description
of the bank robber. The robber was described as a white male, 20-30
years old, 5'10", with a goatee, wearing a tan jacket and a baseball
cap. Within a few minutes, a White Bear Lake Police Patrol Officer spotted
a white male fitting the description of the bank robber, walking near
the intersection of Wedgewood Drive and Highway 244, in Mahtomedi, Minnesota.
The police officer ordered the suspect to stop and eventually placed
the suspect, identified as Brian Lee Lockhart, under arrest. The complaint
further alleges that the officer removed a large wad of cash from the
suspect's pocket along with a demand note written upon a Central Bank
deposit slip.
Lockhart will make his Initial Appearance in a Minneapolis federal court
later today.
This investigation
was a joint effort by the White Bear Lake Police Department. Washington
County Sheriff's Office and the FBI. The United States Attorney's Office,
District of Minnesota is prosecuting this case.
The charges in
a federal criminal complaint are merely an accusation and defendants
are presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
