Dunseith Man Sentenced for Abusive Sexual Contact
MINOT - United States Attorney Drew H. Wrigley announced that on August 27, 2007, Nathan James Thiefoe, 19, of Dunseith, North Dakota, was sentenced in United States District Court before Chief Judge Daniel L. Hovland on a charge of abusive sexual contact. Judge Hovland sentenced Thiefoe to ten years in Federal prison to be followed by three years of supervised release. Thiefoe was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund. The incident occurred at the Sky Dancer Hotel, Belcourt, ND, on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation on February 3, 2006. Thiefoe, 18 years old at the time, was renting a room with his girlfriend. Thiefoe met a 13-year-old girl while at the hotel. The girl invited Thiefoe into her room and consented to kissing. Thiefoe then forced the girl down onto the bed and held her down while he engaged in unwanted sexual contact. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Turtle Mountain Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney David Hagler prosecuted the case. -end-
