The Minnesota Fugitive Task Force (MFTF) today, announced the arrest of
Leonard Lester Slaughter, age 20, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Hennepin County
authorities wanted slaughter for felon in possession of a firearm, possession
of controlled substance, and kidnapping. Slaughter was recently added to
the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Top Ten Most Wanted list. Slaughter
was arrested on Friday, July 27, 2007, at approximately 11:30 pm, after a
felony car stop conducted in the vicinity of 81rst Street and 2 nd Avenue
in Bloomington, Minnesota. Members of the Minnesota Fugitive Task Force (MFTF)
arrested slaughter without incident with assistance from the Hennepin County
Violent Offender Task Force and the Bloomington Police Department. A tipster
who saw Slaughter on KSTP TVs “Minnesota’s Most Wanted” spotted
Slaughter and alerted law enforcement authorities. Prior to his arrest, the
MFTF was able to track Slaughter to Las Vegas, Nevada and were able to confirm
that Slaughter had been living in Las Vegas, Nevada this summer. When Slaughter
was arrested, he was in possession of a Nevada driver’s license using
the alias Romero James Spellman, Jr.
A federal criminal complaint filed June 19, 2007, in United States District
Court, District of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, charges Slaughter with
Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution based on a local complaint filed on December
6, 2006, in Hennepin County District Court, Minneapolis, Minnesota, that charged
Slaughter and three other defendants with Kidnapping.
