The Minnesota Fugitive Task Force (MFTF) today, announced the arrest of Chaun Dubae Carridine, age 37, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Hennepin County authorities wanted Carridine for murder in the second degree. The Minnesota Fugitive Task Force tracked Carridine to Chicago, IL, where he was arrested on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at approximately 10:00 am. Chicago FBI agents were conducting surveillance in the area of 79 th and Racine Avenue in Chicago, IL, and spotted the defendant in a parking lot. The defendant had a towel draped over his head, but agents were able to identify him through tattoos on his body. Agents attempted to arrest Carridine, but he tried to evade arrest by fleeing on foot. Agents eventually tackled and arrested Carridine after a short foot chase.
A federal criminal complaint filed June 14, 2007, in United States District Court, District of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, charges Carridine with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution. A criminal complaint filed June 6, 2007, in Hennepin County District Court, Minneapolis, Minnesota, charges Carridine with Murder in the Second Degree (Intentional)(Felony). The Hennepin County complaint alleges that on June 3, 2007, Carridine got into an argument with Lorenzo Bernard Guffie in Palmer’s Bar, located at 500 Cedar Avenue South in Minneapolis, MN. The argument then moved outside the bar. Eventually Guffie crossed the street and got into his car with several other people. As Guffie began to leave the parking lot across from Palmer’s Bar, a witness in the car saw the defendant pull a handgun and start shooting into the car at Guffie from a very short distance. Guffie was declared dead at Hennepin County Medical Center shortly after the shooting. Further questions regarding the case should be directed to the Minneapolis Police Department or the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
