A fast response and good police work led to the quick arrest of this alleged bank robber. Minneapolis Police Officers arrested Green on February 25, 2008, shortly after Green allegedly robbed the First National Bank of the Lakes located at 3100 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
On February 26, 2008, a federal criminal complaint was filed in United States District Court, District of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, charging Cody Lyle Green with bank robbery for the alleged February 25, 2008, robbery of the First National Bank of the Lakes located at 3100 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The complaint alleges that on February 25, 2008, at approximately 10:45 a.m., the First National Bank of the Lakes was robbed by a lone white male. The robber approached the victim teller and stated he had a gun and demanded money. The teller complied and the robber fled the bank. The robber was wearing a blue knit winter hat, a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans with a hole in the right knee, and tennis shoes. Shortly after the robbery, responding officers were directed to a tobacco shop by a concerned citizen. The tobacco shop is approximately one block from the bank. Witnesses told officers that a white male, wearing a gray sweatshirt had entered the store a few minutes before and walked to the rear of the store. Shortly thereafter, the same white male came to the counter now wearing an orange sweatshirt and attempted to buy cigarettes with a 100 dollar bill. A gray sweatshirt and a dark colored hat were recovered from the back of the tobacco shop. Both items appear to be the same items worn by the bank robber. Shortly thereafter, at the Calhoun Square mall, officers observed a white male, later identified as Cody Lyle Green, matching the description of the white male who had left the tobacco shop. Green was wearing an orange sweatshirt, blue jeans with a hole in the knee and tennis shoes. The officers approached Green and asked for identification. Green opened his wallet and the officers noticed several 100 dollar bills. Two bank employees then identified Green as the bank robber, at which time he was placed under arrest.
On February 26, 2008, Cody Lyle Green made his Initial Appearance in United States District Court and was ordered detained pending further court proceedings. A detention hearing was held in federal court today, and Green was ordered detained.
This investigation was a joint effort by the Minneapolis Police Department and the FBI. The United States Attorney’s Office, District of Minnesota is prosecuting this case.
The charges in a federal criminal complaint are merely an accusation and defendants are presumed innocent until they are proven guilty .
